Switching Accountants in NZ: 6 Questions You're Afraid to Ask

Amy Dove
We sit on a lot of discovery calls, and the same handful of questions come up almost every time. What does it actually cost? What makes Bring On Monday different from every other accountant? Is switching a hassle? Will we ever actually meet in person? Hardly anyone asks all of them outright. Most people raise one or two, then quietly decide the rest aren't worth the awkwardness. So we're answering the lot, honestly and up front, so you don't have to be polite about it. Here are the six questions business owners are usually too shy to ask before switching accountants, and our straight answers to each.

"What does switching accountants actually cost?"

Always a good first question, and it should be! On a discovery call with Bring On Monday (the first free 20 minute call to see if we’re the right fit for each other) we talk real numbers, tailored to the size and shape of your business. We offer accounting, tax, bookkeeping, and advisory under one roof, which means everything flows seamlessly so you only pay for what you need. Even better? We have fixed monthly pricing so there’s no nasty surprise invoices on top of your tax bill. (Our transparency is also a reason we’re a certified B Corporation!). You can check out our services page and how much we charge here.

"What makes you different from everyone else?"

Most accountants are reactive. You send the numbers, they file the numbers, everyone moves on until next year. At Bring On Monday we don't work that way. We're looking at your tax position, your strategy, the risks creeping up on you and the opportunities you haven't spotted yet, before you have to ask. That's the whole point of an advisor. Not someone who tells you what happened, someone who tells you what's coming and what to do about it!

"Is switching from my current accountant going to be a headache?"

Switching accountants is actually common so you don't need to feel guilty, and it’s a fairly straightforward process. To keep it simple for you, we get in touch with your accountant for you, get the info we need and the switch is handled for you so nothing falls through the cracks.

"Where's your team based, really?"

We are based in New Zealand with HQ in Mount Maunganui. We run Bring On Monday remotely, which means our team aren’t restricted by location, which means you get the very best of the best. We hire on experience and fit, not by postcode. That's not a compromise, it tends to get owners better advisors than a "must be local" rule ever would. Remote doesn’t mean no face-to-face - when you become one of our clients you get a free 10 minute chat with your advisor whenever you need it. We also meet with you regularly via video call. And if you happen to be in the area where your advisor is, we always love a quick coffee catch up!

"Will I just have one point of contact?"

Everyone gets a client manager that also happens to be a business advisor. If you get bookkeeping or accounting, you will also then have a dedicated team member for each of those specialities. Then if you dive deeper and get business advisory, your client manager will do this with you too. General questions and everyday tasks go to the team via your client manager, but you have the ability to speak directly with the person looking after your bookkeeping and accounting too. We are all under one roof, so this means you always have the details covered, as well as focus on where your business is headed.

"Can I actually meet you face to face?"

Probably not often, and that's by design, not an excuse. We meet online via video chats, and like to talk on the phone so you get immediate answers. It's faster, we can share screens and get straight into your numbers together, and find solutions without wasting drive time. That said, if we're ever in your neck of the woods or you are passing by, we'll happily stop for a coffee or do a face-to-face session.

One more thing

None of the above is the full pitch to work with Bring On Monday, it's just the honest version of what people usually want to know before they'll pick up the phone. If you've got a question we haven't covered here, ask it. We'd rather answer it properly than have you guess. Feel from to fill in the form here to contact us or book a free call!

*We only work with NZ businesses turning over $250K - $10M.
