Achieving B Corporation Certification and What It Means for Kiwi Business Owners

Kai Daniel
"What’s all the fuss about?” Well, it’s something we’re super proud of here at Bring On Monday (BOM), and we’re thrilled to share our story with you. Becoming a certified B Corp was more than just ticking a box for us; it was about bringing our core values to life and making a real impact.

What it means to be a certified B Corporation:

B Corporations, or B Corps, are businesses that meet the highest standards of verified social and environmental performance, public transparency, and legal accountability to balance profit and purpose. Being a B Corp means committing to rigorous standards of social and environmental responsibility, accountability, and transparency. It's about being part of a community of leaders, driving a global movement of people using business as a force for good.

Our B Corp journey at Bring On Monday: A seal of positive impacts we create for our team members, clients, communities and planet.

Our journey to becoming a B Corp was both challenging and incredibly rewarding. It began with a deep reflection on our core values and a commitment to embedding sustainability and social responsibility into every aspect of our operations. We focused on improving our environmental footprint, enhancing employee well-being, and strengthening our community engagement.

- Going Green: We looked at every aspect of our operations to find ways to be kinder to our planet. From reducing waste in our offices (even closing an office) to choosing eco-friendly suppliers where possible, we took real steps to lessen our environmental footprint.

- Our Team, Our Family: We believe a happy team is a productive team. That’s why we introduced things like flexible work schedules, health and wellness benefits, and plenty of opportunities for our team to grow and flourish through a tailored development program.

- Community at Heart: We’ve always believed in giving back, and our B Corp journey pushed us to do even more. From volunteering days to supporting local initiatives, we’ve doubled down on our commitment to our community.

How your business can become a certified B Corp:

For businesses inspired to become a B Corp, the journey starts with assessing your current impact using the B Impact Assessment tool. This free, confidential platform provides a comprehensive evaluation of your company’s impact on its workers, community, environment, and customers.

- Assess: Begin with the B Impact Assessment to gauge where your company stands against the rigorous standards.

- Improve: Identify areas for improvement and implement changes. This could range from reducing your environmental footprint to enhancing employee benefits.

- Certify: Upon meeting the standards, complete the certification process, which includes documentation review, a site review, and signing the B Corp Declaration of Interdependence.

Our certification as a B Corporation is not a destination but a milestone in our ongoing journey of improvement and commitment to making a difference and achieving the goals of our clients. We encourage other businesses to consider the B Corp certification as a framework for building a more inclusive, sustainable, and resilient business.
